Hi! Im Monique

I’d like to invite you to learn the history of Miner Moes, so I’ll start at the beginning! I was born and raised in Sacramento and grew up watching my Aunt Cordie cook. I fell in love with watching her cook and learning to cook. I vividly remember sitting on a stool and watching her work her cooking magic many days in my childhood. As a teenager, I landed my first job at the original Round Table restaurant located in Sacramento. I loved working there, and broadening my cooking skills, and learning how to perfect the craft of my favorite food, Pizza! Later on, I was able to build on that knowledge by working for my friends Mark and Monica at their pizza establishment in Carmicheal. The experience and knowledge I accrued during that time, as well as my passion for pizza, led me to purchase my own Mountain Mikes!

On a trip to visit my sister in Grass Valley, the stars truly and absolutely aligned! Deano’s Brick Oven Pizza was up for sale! Perfect time, perfect place, it was truly meant to be. An offer was made and sent, and accepted shortly after, and my dream became a reality. Miner Moe’s was now in business! I was more than excited to invest my future in a place I truly loved and cherished. I was even more excited to have such an amazing environment to raise my two amazing children. Doors opened in our previous place of establishment, in 1992, but it didn’t feel like home until we moved to our current location in 2007

Miner Moe’s has been a massive part of my family, as has my family been a massive part of Miner Moe’s. In the starting days of Miner Moe’s, There were more jobs than people to do them! My family stepped up and sacrificed a lot to help my business grow, some of my family members were working on their only days off, as they worked full-time jobs already! I am eternally grateful for their help. My beloved dad would come in and be my handyman, with a wineglass in hand. (Cheers Dad!) My sisters worked the register, while my mom and brother worked hard in the back prepping ingredients, and baking fresh, mouthwatering pizzas from scratch!

My parents owned their own business for thirty years; I garnered so much advice and wisdom from them as I followed in their footsteps. My kids have been raised at Miner Moe's. My daughter Cordelia, named after my aunt who inspired my love for cooking, was born in 1999. My son Bobby, named after his uncle, was born in 2004. I would take them to work with me almost every day. At one point I even had a crib in the kitchen! Cordelia would parade through the restaurant on her big wheel waving to customers. Regulars would often refer to her as "little Moe" and one customer even made Cordelia her very own apron. Bobby would often make himself at home inside a milk crate, playing with Hotwheels as I worked in the kitchen. As the kids got older they still came to work with me. They spent many afternoons and evenings at the restaurant coloring, finishing homework, playing games, and even helping out in the kitchen. They even loved doing dishes! Now that they're young adults they are still a huge part of Miner Moe's - though they don't enjoy doing dishes ast much! They always provide encouragement and motivation to try new things like online ordering or keeping up with all the social media platforms. You might run into them as they still drop by to help out their mom when they have an opportunity.

A lot has changed since we first opened in 1992. But one thing has remained, my passion for family, pizza, and community. I am grateful every day for the support Nevada County gives my business. It is a wonderfully humbling experience to give back to the community that has given so much to me. Throughout these years, I’ve learned firsthand how our community has supported one another. Community is cultivated through purposeful actions. I will never take for granted the community we have here at Miner Moe’s, and Nevada County as a whole. As soon as you walk into Miner Moe’s I consider you a member of my extended family, so don’t be a stranger! I hope you enjoy the tradition of family, shared experiences, community, and certainly pizza, in our restaurant.
